Art & comedy

  • FUNNY GIRL, the sensational musical comedy revival, is coming to Atlanta’s Fox Theatre for a limited one-week engagement from July 30 – Aug. 4 as part of the Regions Bank Broadway in Atlanta 2023/2024 season. 
  • Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse opens Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” this weekend. Rosalind disguises herself as a man as Orlando litters the trees with love notes praising her beauty and virtue. Will the two lovers be united? Will Orlando survive the wrestling match? See it Friday through July 27.
  • A Fernbank Museum of Natural History exhibit brings 18 larger-than-life metal sculptures of flowers and animals to the nature trails in WildWoods, The exhibit, “Forest Forms,” features sculptures inspired by nature and created by Huelani Mei. The sculptures include a fox family, flowers, rabbits, a snake archway, a peacock and more. “Forest Forms” will be open at Fernbank through Sept. 29.
  • The exhibit, “Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space” at the High Museum of Art, features the photographer and filmmaker’s works that center on Black self-determination and empowerment through scenes of love, leisure and camaraderie. Mitchell rose to global prominence in 2018 when he photographed Beyoncé for the September issue of Vogue as the first Black artist to shoot the cover in the magazine’s then 126-year history. See the exhibit through Dec. 1.
  • The CDC Museum is exhibiting a multimedia exhibit showcasing works that were borne of the pandemic. Soon after people started isolating in March 2020, artists took to their studios, desks and Zoom to bear witness to and process the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Food Truck Fridays in VaHi.
  • Little 5 Points Historic Walking Tours.
  • Peachtree Center is where you’ll want to be on Sunday — for Peachfest. You’ll find food artisans, pastry chefs and bartenders creating treats for the 10th annual festival. Chef-prepared dishes will include the state’s signature fruit, the Georgia Peach. There will be peach-inspired cocktails, peach-infused beers and premium wines. Have yourself a peachy good time from 3 until 7 p.m.
  • Marburger Atlanta Antique & Design Show, beloved by interior designers, collectors and culture seekers since 1997, hosts its first event outside of Round Top, Texas, July 17-20, at the historic Philip Shutze-designed Southern Exchange Ballrooms Downtown. The show features 35,000 square feet of shopping, 60 dealers and is free and open to the public.
  • Veuve Cliquot, the Champagne company, is sponsoring pop-ups at Phipps Plaza on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout July. Enjoy live music and sparkling drinks from 4 until 8 p.m. 
  • Atlantic Station hosts Creator’s Market from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturdays and noon until 7 p.m. Sundays, every weekend through December. 

For the family:

  • The Children’s Museum of Atlanta has opened its third installment of the Step Up to Science exhibit. There are opportunities to explore shadows, sources of light, color theory and vibrations. 
  • The Center for Puppetry Arts is showing “Sesame Street The Musical through Aug. 4.
  • The 17th annual Children’s Film Festival continues through July 23. Presented by Kids Video Connection Inc., the festival features activities including film screenings and workshops for children, teens and industry professionals. 
  • Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., it’s Reptile Day at Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Meet slimy, scaly and spiny animals, make a reptile craft, learn about Georgia’s state reptile, the Gopher Tortoise, learn about amphibians and plenty more.
  • The National Center for Civil and Human Rights presents “Kidspiration,’ a special program for children presented by PNC, on Saturday. The free program will occur in the Glenn Room on the first floor of the museum. 
  • The Alliance Theatre’s Hertz Stage presents “Babble Lab,” a blubbering and blibbering exploration of spoken blurbbles as they spring forth in this one-of-a-kind, gee-gaw-filled laboratory. It is on stage through July 28.
  • A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature – On view June 8 – Sept. 9, 2024 at Fernbank Museum.

Sports, fitness & outdoors:

  • The Association of Tennis Professional’s Atlanta Open bounces into Atlantic Station July 20-28. Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe will play alongside Adrian Mannarino, Denis Shapovalov and former top-10 player David Goffin. 
  • The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals play a three-game series at Truist Park this weekend. Friday’s game begins at 7:20 p.m. and will be followed by Friday Night Fireworks. On Saturday, the first pitch hurls down to home plate at 7:20 p.m. as the Braves celebrate Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Night. Sunday, when the game begins at 1:35 p.m., is Kids Run the Bases Day. 
  • Discover your inner zen + take your practice to The Plaza. Enjoy a yoga experience, powered by lululemon, outdoors every Wednesday from April to October – July 3rd: CorePower Yoga
