- Join the 1st Annual East Lake Music Fest this Saturday. Featuring Grammy winner and half of the famous folk duo, Indigo Girls, Atlanta native Amy Ray is set to join the East Lake Music Fest happening on Sept. 7 in the heart of East Lake.

- Horizon Theatre opened its 40th season with the comedy “Wild With Happy,” playing through Sept. 15.
- “The Seagull,” Anton Chekhov’s tragic comedy of unrequited life, will play at Pratt Pullman Yards with Performance Jam through Sunday. Performance Jam is a creative hub for local Atlanta artists, performers, writers and filmmakers.
- 7 Stages presents the She ATL Summer Theater Festival Wednesday through Sunday.
- Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse presents Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales” Sept. 7-29.
- A new exhibit, “Golden Opportunity: Botanical Illustration,” opens at Fernbank Museum of Natural History on Saturday. It continues through Jan. 1, 2025.

- Verse Immersive, an augmented reality (AR) experience, is open at Ponce City Market’s The Roof. Verse Immersive uses AR visors to bring 3D characters and stories to life, offering guests an immersive experience as interactive tales unfold before their eyes. There are five experiences appropriate for ages 7 and older.
- The King Center becomes the Beloved Community International Expo on Saturday, celebrating global culture with performances, creative works, politics, food, music, dance and more — all from societies around the world.

- Dining in the Dark: A Unique Blindfolded Dining Experience at Commerce Club Atlanta

- This September, enjoy Free Admissions for Kids at many attractions. Participating attractions include: Children’s Museum of Atlanta, Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, David J. Senser CDC Museum, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Georgia Aquarium, High Museum of Art, Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, The Breman and World of Coca-Cola.
- Visit the Dunwoody Nature Center’s Butterfly Experience for a magical weekend! Capture precious moments as butterflies land all around (and on!) you. Enjoy live entertainment, puppet shows, and bands at the outdoor fireplace.
- “Owl at Home” at the Center for Puppetry Arts is the story of an owl who lives by himself and likes warm soup and Tear Drop Tea. Owl welcomes Winter to his home because Winter needs warming up. “Owl at Home” is part of the Theater for the Very Young series and will be on stage through Sept. 8. The show is for audiences ages 2 and older.
- The Children’s Museum of Atlanta has opened its third installment of the Step Up to Science exhibit. There are opportunities to explore shadows, sources of light, color theory and vibrations.
- A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature – On view June 8 – Sept. 9, 2024 at Fernbank Museum.
- Atlanta Botanical Garden presents “Alice’s Wonderland Returns” through Sept. 15. The exhibit features seven installations of 22 of the topiary-like mosaiculture pieces throughout the garden.
Sports, fitness & outdoors:
- The Atlanta Dream welcomes the Dallas Wings to Gateway Center Arena for a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday.
- The Atlanta Falcons open the season with a home game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
- The Atlanta Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays play a three-game series at Truist Park this weekend.
- College Football: The Georgia State University Panthers play the Chattanooga Mocs at 7 p.m. Saturday at Center Parc Stadium. The Clark Atlanta University Panthers play the Allen University Yellow Jackets at 2 p.m. Saturday in its home opener at CAU Panther Stadium. The Morehouse College Maroon Tigers face the John C. Smith University Golden Bulls at home on Saturday. Game time at B.T. Harvey Stadium is 3 p.m.
