  • The High Museum of Art opens the exhibit, “Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space” on Friday. Mitchell is an American photographer and filmmaker renowned for his portrayals that center Black self-determination and empowerment through scenes of love, leisure and camaraderie. 
  • Friday also brings the High’s monthly event, Friday Jazz from 6 until 10 p.m. Enjoy a drink and light bites, head to the galleries to explore the museum’s works on view, and join a docent-led tour for a detailed look at the collection. 
  • Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse is showing Ken Ludwig’s “The Three Musketeers” through June 30. 
  • Atlantic Station hosts Creator’s Market from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturdays and noon until 7 p.m. Sundays, every weekend through December. 
  • Hammonds House Museum presents “Rhythm of Resilience: The Artistry of Sam Middleton” through Aug. 18. 
  • Hammonds House Museum opens a new exhibit on Friday. “Rhythm of Resilience: The Artistry of Sam Middleton” runs through Aug. 18. A master of collage, Middleton’s compositions weave together musical scores, photographs and graphic elements in a dance of color and form. His art is a testament to the enduring influence of jazz.
  • Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse is showing Ken Ludwig’s “The Three Musketeers” through June 30.

More fun things!

  • Piedmont Park is where you’ll want to be from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday during the Juneteenth Parade and Music Festival. Find more Juneteenth events here.
  • Explore 10 stunning homes, a local gallery and a museum, all offering insights into West End’s rich history and unique architecture. Be there Saturday from 5 until 9 p.m. for the West End Tour of Homes and Gardens.
  • Fourth Ward Park is the site of the Summer Beer Fest, happening from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday. There will be live music plus a DJ and, oh yeah, 150 beers. Are you an IPO or a stout?
  • The Interlock is turning three and what better way to celebrate than with a community block party! From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, the West Midtown neighborhood is invited to enjoy a live DJ, food and drink specials from everyone’s favorite spots, a variety of vendors, refreshing treats, giveaways and more. 
  • Friday night at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights brings Truth on the Rocks, a celebration of the center’s 10th anniversary, which includes dancing, cocktails and conversation. The center celebrates Juneteenth on Sunday with a quilt mural, a scavenger hunt, trivia and Juneteenth flag making. June 19 offers a performance, a scavenger hunt, trivia, flag making and outdoor activities.
  • Also at the center, Saturday is free admission day. courtesy of Home Depot. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserve your tickets online. On Sunday admission is $10. Tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Reynoldstown Farmer’s Market – Located in the shady parking lot in front of Lang Carson Recreation Center at 100 Flat Shoals Ave, SE Atlanta, the market is just 100 yards off the Beltline. Join the neighbors of Reynoldstown Sundays from noon to 3pm for this festive market.

For the family:

  • The Center for Puppetry Arts is showing “Sesame Street The Musical through Aug. 4. 
  • Kids Video Connection, Inc. will present the 17th annual Atlanta Children’s Film Festival (ACFF) from June 7 – 23, 2024. The ACFF features two and a half weeks of eye-opening and exciting activities, including film screenings and workshops for children, teens, and industry professionals. 
  • UniverSoul Circus flies high at Atlantic Station through Sunday. Featuring stars from five continents, all backed by the beat of World Music, UniverSoul Circus reimagines itself this year with more than a dozen culturally diverse performances. The circus features never-before-seen acts from Ethiopia, the Dominican Republic and Mongolia as well as an 18-person flying trapeze act from China.
  • The Atlanta Botanical Garden presents “Alice’s Wonderland Returns” Saturday through Sept. 15. The exhibit features seven installations of 22 of the topiary-like mosaiculture pieces throughout the garden. 
  • A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature – On view June 8 – Sept. 9, 2024 at Fernbank Museum.

Sports, fitness & outdoors:

  • Atlanta Dream is home for two games this weekend. The Dream takes on the Indiana Fever at 7:30 p.m. Friday at State Farm Arena. On Sunday, the Dream meets the New York Liberty at 3 p.m. at Gateway Center Arena. 
  • Piedmont Park’s most popular fitness class is back! This 1.5 hour strength building, core sculpting, heart pumping pool workout is perfect for the summer! Be prepared for for a circuit-training, total-body class for the first 45 minutes of class (wear tennis shoes). Please bring swimwear for the second half of class.  8:30am to 10:00am **1.5 HOUR CLASS!!**Saturdays June 4-July 16 .
  • Come out to the Broad Street Boardwalk for 60 minutes of all-levels vinyasa flow each Saturday morning at 10:00 AM! Yoga classes are open to the public and FREE to attend with an RSVP. BYOM (Bring Your Own Mat) and water. These fun, accessible, and meditative practices will leave you feeling peaceful yet invigorated–and part of a great community. Classes are designed for beginners and advanced practitioners alike and all ages are welcome!
