  • The Chastain Park Arts Festival is this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, in Chastain Park along Park Drive.
  • The Sound Waves Music Series kicks off Friday night at Georgia Aquarium. Every Friday from April 26 through May, Georgia Aquarium’s Sound Waves celebrates the arts, diversity and local talent. Enjoy live music with enhanced lighting and atmospheric elements in the atrium to complement the artists. You will have access to the aquarium’s galleries, included with general admission. Sound Waves occurs from 5 until 8 p.m.
  • Atlanta Ballet presents: Liquid Motion at the Cobb Energy Center until 5/12
  • The third annual European Film Festival of Atlanta (EFFA) is taking place May 8-May 11, 2024. The Alliance Française Atlanta, the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta and various European Consulates are pleased to announce the return of the festival to the historic Plaza Theatre & Tara Theater.
  • MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) opens the exhibit “Al Dente: The Design of Pasta” on Friday.
  • The Georgia Renaissance Festival, a trek back to the 16th century, opens Saturday and runs weekends through June 2.
  • The Balloon Museum at Pullman Yards is flying high through June 9.

More fun things!

  • The Atlanta Botanical Garden presents “Alice’s Wonderland Returns” Saturday through Sept. 15. The exhibit features seven installations of 22 of the topiary-like mosaiculture pieces throughout the garden. 
  • Mother’s Day at Monday Night!
  • Sweet Auburn Springfest: Saturday and Sunday Head Downtown for the Sweet Auburn Springfest this weekend. Go for the music, shop the vendors and grab a bite or three. It’s time to celebrate the neighborhood.
  • The second annual Latino Family Festival take place the first three weekends in May at Stone Mountain Park. Enjoy a celebration of Latino music, dance and culture, featuring live international talent including dancers, musicians, a marching band, all-new festive parade and a massive drone and light show. Join in the fun Saturdays and Sundays May 4 — 19.
  • If you are celebrating Cinco de Mayo this weekend, take a look at Where to Enjoy Authentic Mexican Food in Atlanta. If you are into horse racing, then know that both the Willow Bar and Hartley Kitchen & Cocktails at the Kimpton Shane Hotel are celebrating the Kentucky Derby.
  • Reynoldstown Farmer’s Market – Located in the shady parking lot in front of Lang Carson Recreation Center at 100 Flat Shoals Ave, SE Atlanta, the market is just 100 yards off the Beltline. Join the neighbors of Reynoldstown Sundays from noon to 3pm for this festive market.

For the family:

  • BYO lantern (or just enjoy lanterns that others bring) to the Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade at 7:45 p.m. Saturday in Adair Park.
  • Dekalb-Peachtree Airport is happy to announce that the Good Neighbor Day Air Show and Open House is returning on Saturday May 11th. Planes, food, and lots of entertainment will be back at PDK for this years air show. Come all, old and young for some fun in the sun at PDK. 
  • Did you know you can have Brunch with Mom for Mother’s Day at the Zoo? https://zooatlanta.org/event/mothers-day-brunch/ 
  • Purchase your tickets for the fourth annual Mother Son Dance in Sandy Springs! For the fourth year in a row, the City of Sandy Springs is offering families a Mother’s Day weekend event to celebrate the very special mom (or mother figure) in our younger residents’ lives. The City’s Recreation and Parks Department’s Mother-Son Dance is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 6 – 8 p.m. at City Springs.
  • Spiders — From Fear to Fascination” is on view at Fernbank Museum of Natural History through May 5.
  • Stellaluna‘ is playing at Center for Puppetry Arts through May 19.
  • The popular exhibit Flora, Fauna & Flight returns to Fernbank Museum of Natural History on Saturday March 23rd and continues through June 23.
  • The Children’s Museum of Atlanta hosts “Outside the Box”. The exhibit runs through May 5. “Outside the Box” aims to fuel children’s imaginations by unleashing a world of timeless fun. 

Sports, fitness & outdoors:

  • Game time for a match between Atlanta United and D.C. United is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
  • The Atlanta Cycling Festival is celebrating 10 years of fun on two wheels with an 8 day Festival.
  • Atlanta History Center has a new Hank Aaron exhibit.
  • The Georgia Brain Tumor Walk & Race is Saturday at The Battery. Registration opens at 7 a.m. The opening ceremony opens at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K to follow.
  • Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) plans its 10th annual Midtown Race for MAC 5K at Piedmont Park on Saturday. Since its inaugural race in 2014, the Midtown Race for MAC has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide essential emergency assistance to low-income working Atlantans. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. near Park Tavern and Midtown High School.
