  • The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs’ fall arts event ELEVATE begins on Friday and continues each weekend through Oct. 13.
  • A new exhibit, “Golden Opportunity: Botanical Illustration,” is at Fernbank Museum through Jan. 1, 2025. 
  • A weekend of jazz will take place at the Hammonds House Museum as trombonist Wycliffe Garden and pianist Eric Scott Reed perform Saturday and present a workshop for musicians and jazz lovers on Sunday. 
  • See “Dracula: The Failings of Men” Saturday through Nov. 3 at Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. 
  • The exhibit, “Giants from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys” is open at the High Museum of Art through Jan. 19, 2025.

  • The Candler Park Festival will be in full swing Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy two days of music, art, food, games, rides and special attractions. Admission is free.

  • Atlanta’s popular fall tradition is back for its 22nd year. Scarecrows in the Garden returns, celebrating autumn with colorful creations from the community.  The scarecrows get a little creepier after dusk during Fest-of-Ale when guests can enjoy craft beers and live entertainment Thursday – Saturday , Oct. 3 – 26 from 5 until 8 p.m.
  • The second-annual Westside Stride offers a chance to stroll down Howell Mill Road with family and friends. Enjoy live music, a vendor and artist market, culinary experiences, family activities and more at this free-to-attend event. Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. 
  • Starting this weekend and continuing every weekend this month, Little 5 Points presents its Ghost Tours. Follow expert guides as they lead you to the neighborhood’s most chilling locations. From lingering spirits of the past to unexplained paranormal activity, you’ll hear the terrifying tales that have haunted the streets of L5P for generations.
  • DreamHack comes to Georgia World Congress center this weekend. The three-day event, Friday through Sunday, invites you to connect, explore and win alongside fellow fans. Experience gaming culture, cosplay, entertainment, tabletop and esports.

  • Head to Oakland’s North Public Grounds on October 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for their fifth annual Pumpkin Patch Festival! Celebrate the season with activities and photo ops for the whole family!

  • Starting this weekend and continuing through October, Georgia Aquarium presents Haunted Seas in the Ocean Voyager, Tropical Diver and River Scout areas. On weekends from 2 until 6 p.m., the adventure intensifies with an enhanced trick-or-treat experience.  
  • Opening Saturday, the Armored Animal exhibit at Fernbank Museum of Natural History tells a story of protection and defense through artifacts, spiny displays and casts from animals like fish and dinosaurs. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 5, 2025.
  • Starting Sunday and continuing through the end of the month, it’s a Halloween Brick-or-Treat Monster Party at LEGO Discovery Center. The monsters take over with some exciting Halloween activities. 
  • Pumpkin Festival: Play by Day, Glow by Night
    Experience glowing pumpkins and festive activities at Stone Mountain Park.
  • The Center for Puppetry Arts opens “Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote” this week. It continues through Oct. 20. 
  • Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s fall featured exhibit, “Wallace & Gromit: Get Cracking,” The exhibit will educate and entertain kids through Jan. 12, 2025.

  • Just ahead of the weekend, the Atlanta Falcons host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an 8:15 p.m. game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Thursday night. 
  • The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets host the Duke Blue Devils at 8 p.m. Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field.
  • The Clark Atlanta University Panthers host the Savannah State University Tigers at 2 p.m. Saturday at CAU Panther Stadium.

  • It’s time for Chattahoochee Nature Center’s annual outdoor food and craft beer festival, Harvest on the Hooch, Sunday from 1 until 5 p.m. 
  • Hank Aaron Exhibit at Atlanta History Center
    Explore the life and legacy of baseball legend Hank Aaron.
  • The John Rhoden Sculpture Garden, the first of its kind dedicated solely to Rhoden’s works, opens this weekend at the Hammonds House Museum. The opening of the garden compliments an exhibition from the Hammonds House Museum Collection that explores the interconnectedness of African, African American and Caribbean artistic expressions. The John Rhoden Sculpture Garden features 10 of the artist’s sculptures. It will be a permanent attraction at the museum.

  • City Green Live Concert: Fastball Friday at 9PM – FREE!
  • The Atlanta Hip Hop Day Festival convenes at Historic Fourth Ward Park on Saturday and Sunday. Celebrate Atlanta’s contribution to hip-hop culture with DJ SCREAM of The Big Facts Podcast and DJ Swamp Izzo of Cash Money Records. This years festival also features the DistroKid Hour where young hip-hop artists perform. 
  • Taste of Soul Atlanta brings music and food to Downtown Saturday and Sunday near Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Chow down on fried chicken, smothered pork chops, ribs and candied yams while grooving to tunes from 100 performers.
  • The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival celebrates Black cultural heritage. In addition to screenings, there will be readings, workshops, awards and a Black art expo. The event occurs Friday and Saturday at Holiday Inn Suites Atlanta Airport North and Southwest Arts Center.

  • Don’t let the kids (or adults) miss Dragon Con’s Annual Parade in Peachtree Center Downtown Atlanta! Totally free. Just grab a seat and enjoy the costumes, cars and more!
  • The Children’s Museum of Atlanta announces the return of TinyCON, celebrating movies, games, characters and more. The two-day event occurs Saturday and Sunday. Children can design moon-moving devices at the Minions Maker Space, create “Inside Out 2”-themed slime and undergo special Jedi training. They can embark on a Pokémon scavenger hunt throughout the museum. Costumes are encouraged, and tickets should be purchased in advance.   • It’s time for the always popular Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival at the Fox Theatre. Here’s the lineup: 7:30 p.m. Friday brings a mystery selection. There’s a “Little Mermaid” sing-along at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a “Bohemian Rhapsody” sing-along at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Sunday at 1 p.m. brings “Casablanca,” and Sunday at 4 p.m. brings “West Side Story.”
  • The BronzeLens Film Festival begins on Wednesday and continues through the weekend. Events include daily screenings of new works by independent filmmakers from across the country and around the globe, workshops, panel discussions, the BronzeLens Awards and plenty more. The inaugural Filmmakers Ball will be held at City Hall on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. The BronzeLens Award Show occurs at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center at Morehouse College.
  • Friday night welcomes Karla Harris and the Joe Alterman Trio to Jazz on the Lawn at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Music begins at 7:30 p.m.
  • Fashion Statement, a fund-raiser for Susan G. Komen For the Cure, is set for Sunday at Phipps Plaza. The event begins with private in-store shopping experiences throughout the luxury retailer floor. A reception will feature curated cocktails and culinary creations from restaurants located at Phipps. There will be a live auction and a fashion show.
  • Horizon Theatre open its 40th season with the comedy “Wild With Happy,” playing Aug. 16 – Sept.

  • Center Parc Stadium is where you’ll want to be on Saturday when the Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kick-Off launches the 2024 college football season. The game, between the Florida A&M Rattlers and the Norfolk State Spartans, begins at 7:30 p.m., and there is plenty of activity ahead of the game. On game day, fan experiences begin at 3 p.m., and the 5th Quarter Battle of the Bands follows the post-game presentation. There are related events beginning on Wednesday.
  • The Atlanta Dream hosts the Phoenix Mercury at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gateway Center Arena. Atlanta is ranked ninth on the season; Phoenix is ranked sixth.

The sculptures include a fox family, flowers, rabbits, a snake archway, a peacock and more. “Forest Forms” will be open at Fernbank through Sept. 29.
  • The exhibit, “Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space” at the High Museum of Art, features the photographer and filmmaker’s works that center on Black self-determination and empowerment through scenes of love, leisure and camaraderie. Mitchell rose to global prominence in 2018 when he photographed Beyoncé for the September issue of Vogue as the first Black artist to shoot the cover in the magazine’s then 126-year history. See the exhibit through Dec. 1.

  • The National Center for Civil and Human Rights presents “Kidspiration,’ a special program for children presented by PNC, on Saturday. The free program will occur in the Glenn Room on the first floor of the museum. 
  • The Alliance Theatre’s Hertz Stage presents “Babble Lab,” a blubbering and blibbering exploration of spoken blurbbles as they spring forth in this one-of-a-kind, gee-gaw-filled laboratory. It is on stage through July 28.
  • A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature – On view June 8 – Sept. 9, 2024 at Fernbank Museum.

Sports, fitness & outdoors:

  • The Association of Tennis Professional’s Atlanta Open bounces into Atlantic Station July 20-28. Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe will play alongside Adrian Mannarino, Denis Shapovalov and former top-10 player David Goffin. 
  • The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals play a three-game series at Truist Park this weekend. Friday’s game begins at 7:20 p.m. and will be followed by Friday Night Fireworks. On Saturday, the first pitch hurls down to home plate at 7:20 p.m. as the Braves celebrate Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Night. Sunday, when the game begins at 1:35 p.m., is Kids Run the Bases Day.
