  • South Fulton Arts presents “The Cake” at the following locations: Sept. 20 at Academy Theatre; and Sept. 21 at the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum. 
  • A revival of “A Raisin in the Sun” at Theatrical Outfit runs through Sept. 29. 
  • Buckhead Village is where to find the Buckhead Fine Arts Festival, Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Atlanta Comedy Theatre: Stand-up comedy shows.
  • Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse presents Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales” through Sept. 29. 
  • The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs’ fall arts event ELEVATE begins on Friday and continues each weekend through Oct. 13.
  • Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse presents Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales” Sept. 7-29.
  • A new exhibit, “Golden Opportunity: Botanical Illustration,” is at Fernbank Museum through Jan. 1, 2025. 
  • The Atlanta Opera Discoveries series continues the “Bohème Project” with two immersive productions at Pullman Yards. The project comprises repertory performances of a modern-day “La bohème” (Sept. 18-Oct. 5) with the COVID-19 pandemic in place of tuberculosis — with the Broadway show it inspired, Jonathan Larson’s “Rent” (Sept. 19-Oct. 6), which updated Puccini’s story of friendship, passion and art by setting it in the midst of the 1990’s HIV/AIDS crisis. 
  • Start your weekends unwinding with live musical performances in The Colony Square Plaza the last Friday of the month from April to October. For upcoming show schedule go to  go.colonysquare.com/groovin

  • Don’t forget to visit the Kirkwood Wine Stroll on September 20th!
  • The Urban Regatta returns to Castleberry Hill on Saturday from noon until 7 p.m. The festival features a vendor market, pop-up gallery, a costume contest and the boat race where bicycles are transformed into boats, relying on pedal power and creativity instead of motors and sails. Admission is free.
  • Stone Mountain’s Colors of India Festival: Light shows, food, and performances.
  • Verse Immersive, an augmented reality (AR) experience, is open at Ponce City Market’s The Roof. Verse Immersive uses AR visors to bring 3D characters and stories to life, offering guests an immersive experience as interactive tales unfold before their eyes. There are five experiences appropriate for ages 7 and older.
  • The Home Depot Backyard next to Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the site for the final Piedmont Summer Movie Experience. On Saturday from 6 until 11 p.m. the BackYARD Fest invites guests to enjoy an evening of celebrating HBCU culture with food trucks, vendors, special guests, performances, vendors, games and a tailgate watch party, capped off by a featured movie on the lawn. 
  • Dining in the Dark: A Unique Blindfolded Dining Experience at Commerce Club Atlanta
  • Rise and Dine with the Animals at the Zoo, where you can enjoy a continental breakfast while also enjoying an early morning view of the animals as they get ready to start their day.
  • Atlantic Station hosts Creator’s Market from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturdays and noon until 7 p.m. Sundays, every weekend through December.

  • Come out to the Broad Street Boardwalk for a FREE 60 minutes of all-levels vinyasa flow each Saturday morning at 10:00 AM!
  • It’s time for Chattahoochee Nature Center’s annual outdoor food and craft beer festival, Harvest on the Hooch, Sunday from 1 until 5 p.m. 
  • The John Rhoden Sculpture Garden, the first of its kind dedicated solely to Rhoden’s works, opens this weekend at the Hammonds House Museum. The opening of the garden compliments an exhibition from the Hammonds House Museum Collection that explores the interconnectedness of African, African American and Caribbean artistic expressions. The John Rhoden Sculpture Garden features 10 of the artist’s sculptures. It will be a permanent attraction at the museum. The opening occurs Friday from 6:30-8:30 pm.

  • City Green Live Concert: Fastball Friday at 9PM – FREE!
  • The Atlanta Hip Hop Day Festival convenes at Historic Fourth Ward Park on Saturday and Sunday. Celebrate Atlanta’s contribution to hip-hop culture with DJ SCREAM of The Big Facts Podcast and DJ Swamp Izzo of Cash Money Records. This years festival also features the DistroKid Hour where young hip-hop artists perform. 
  • Taste of Soul Atlanta brings music and food to Downtown Saturday and Sunday near Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Chow down on fried chicken, smothered pork chops, ribs and candied yams while grooving to tunes from 100 performers.
  • The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival celebrates Black cultural heritage. In addition to screenings, there will be readings, workshops, awards and a Black art expo. The event occurs Friday and Saturday at Holiday Inn Suites Atlanta Airport North and Southwest Arts Center.
  • Horizon Theatre opened its 40th season with the comedy “Wild With Happy,” playing through Sept. 15.

  • Atlanta Botanical Garden presents “Alice’s Wonderland Returns” through Sept. 15. The exhibit features seven installations of 22 of the topiary-like mosaiculture pieces throughout the garden.

  • It’s time for the always popular Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival at the Fox Theatre. Here’s the lineup: 7:30 p.m. Friday brings a mystery selection. There’s a “Little Mermaid” sing-along at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a “Bohemian Rhapsody” sing-along at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Sunday at 1 p.m. brings “Casablanca,” and Sunday at 4 p.m. brings “West Side Story.”
  • The BronzeLens Film Festival begins on Wednesday and continues through the weekend. Events include daily screenings of new works by independent filmmakers from across the country and around the globe, workshops, panel discussions, the BronzeLens Awards and plenty more. The inaugural Filmmakers Ball will be held at City Hall on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. The BronzeLens Award Show occurs at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center at Morehouse College.
  • Friday night welcomes Karla Harris and the Joe Alterman Trio to Jazz on the Lawn at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Music begins at 7:30 p.m.
  • Fashion Statement, a fund-raiser for Susan G. Komen For the Cure, is set for Sunday at Phipps Plaza. The event begins with private in-store shopping experiences throughout the luxury retailer floor. A reception will feature curated cocktails and culinary creations from restaurants located at Phipps. There will be a live auction and a fashion show.

  • Center Parc Stadium is where you’ll want to be on Saturday when the Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kick-Off launches the 2024 college football season. The game, between the Florida A&M Rattlers and the Norfolk State Spartans, begins at 7:30 p.m., and there is plenty of activity ahead of the game. On game day, fan experiences begin at 3 p.m., and the 5th Quarter Battle of the Bands follows the post-game presentation. There are related events beginning on Wednesday.
  • The Atlanta Dream hosts the Phoenix Mercury at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gateway Center Arena. Atlanta is ranked ninth on the season; Phoenix is ranked sixth.
  • The Washington Nationals are in town for a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves this weekend at Truist Park. 
  • The final pre-season game for the Atlanta Falcons is 7 p.m. Friday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The regular season begins at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

  • A Fernbank Museum of Natural History exhibit brings 18 larger-than-life metal sculptures of flowers and animals to the nature trails in WildWoods, The exhibit, “Forest Forms,” features sculptures inspired by nature and created by Huelani Mei. The sculptures include a fox family, flowers, rabbits, a snake archway, a peacock and more. “Forest Forms” will be open at Fernbank through Sept. 29.
  • The exhibit, “Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space” at the High Museum of Art, features the photographer and filmmaker’s works that center on Black self-determination and empowerment through scenes of love, leisure and camaraderie. Mitchell rose to global prominence in 2018 when he photographed Beyoncé for the September issue of Vogue as the first Black artist to shoot the cover in the magazine’s then 126-year history. See the exhibit through Dec. 1.

  • Chamblee: City Hall Green Space – The city of Chamblee will host a family-oriented Fourth of July celebration again in 2024. The summer concert and fireworks will take place from 5 until 10 p.m. on July 4. The location is the new Chamblee City Hall, located at 3518 Broad St., in the downtown Chamblee entertainment district. There will be live music, fireworks, food and activities for kids and families. 
  • Decatur: Downtown – Decatur’s Fourth of July Pied Piper Parade starts at 6 p.m. It wends through downtown with floats, wagons, and bicycles. Music at the community bandstand starts at 7 pm. Fireworks begin at approximately 9.pm.
  • Dunwoody: Streets of Dunwoody – Dunwoody’s Fourth of July celebration draws more than 2,500 participants and more than 35,000 spectators. This year’s theme is “Red, White & YOU.” Considered the largest Independence Day parade in the state of Georgia, it features floats, marching bands, vintage cars, clowns and animals. Parade spectators are encouraged to set up chairs along Mount Vernon Road and circle around the Dunwoody Village Parkway into Dunwoody Village. 
  • Johns Creek: Newtown Park – The city of Johns Creek celebrates our country’s independence at Newtown Park with live music, activities, food and a fireworks display from 6 to 10 p.m. on July 3. The free event features food trucks and music from the band Boogilicious. 
  • Lawrenceville: Lawrenceville Lawn – The city of Lawrenceville will host a special Prelude to the Fourth from 5 until 10 p.m. on July 3. Guests are invited to gather on the Lawrenceville Lawn for a festive, free family-friendly event. 
  • Marietta: Fourth in the Park – The City of Marietta’s 4th In The Park Celebration begins at 10 a.m. on July 4 and includes a parade, free live concerts, arts and crafts show, food, carnival games and fireworks finale.  
  • Roswell: Roswell Area Park – The city of Roswell plans a July 4 celebration beginning at 6 p.m. in Roswell Area Park. 
  • Sandy Springs: City Springs – The Sandy Springs Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration at City Springs begins at 4 p.m., accompanied by the tunes of the band A-Town A-List starting at 7:30 p.m. A fireworks display is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. 
  • Stone Mountain Park – Stone Mountain Park’s Fantastic Fourth celebration runs July 1-7. Visitors are invited to enjoy family attractions and live entertainment, followed by the new Music Across America Light Show. Tickets are required for the light show and fireworks.

  • Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse opens Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” this weekend. Rosalind disguises herself as a man as Orlando litters the trees with love notes praising her beauty and virtue. Will the two lovers be united? Will Orlando survive the wrestling match? See it Friday through July 27.
  • “More Than Brave: The Life of Henry Aaron” is open at Atlanta History Center. 
  • Atlantic Station hosts Creator’s Market from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturdays and noon until 7 p.m. Sundays, every weekend through December. 
  • Meditate with the Butterflies at Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) Sunday from 10 a.m. until noon. This quiet time occurs before CNC opens to the public. It is an opportunity to experience butterflies in a new way.

  • The Center for Puppetry Arts is showing “Sesame Street The Musical through Aug. 4. 
  • The Alliance Theatre’s Hertz Stage presents “Babble Lab,” a blubbering and blibbering exploration of spoken blurbbles as they spring forth in this one-of-a-kind, gee-gaw-filled laboratory. When an experiment unexpectedly goes awry, a concoction of sneaky, sprightly L E T T E R S takes over a weird and wondrous science lab. Watch them jump into jars, spring from drawers, bounce around the room and even play hide-and-seek as our scientist makes her surprising findings: Bluku terullala blaulala looooRakete bee beeRekate bee zee! It is on stage through July 28.
  • UniverSoul Circus flies high at Atlantic Station through Sunday. Featuring stars from five continents, all backed by the beat of World Music, UniverSoul Circus reimagines itself this year with more than a dozen culturally diverse performances. The circus features never-before-seen acts from Ethiopia, the Dominican Republic and Mongolia as well as an 18-person flying trapeze act from China.
  • The Atlanta Botanical Garden presents “Alice’s Wonderland Returns” Saturday through Sept. 15. The exhibit features seven installations of 22 of the topiary-like mosaiculture pieces throughout the garden. 
  • A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature – On view June 8 – Sept. 9, 2024 at Fernbank Museum.

Sports, fitness & outdoors:

  • The Atlanta Braves open a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies Friday at Truist Park. First pitch Friday night occurs at 7:20 p.m. Fans should stick around after the game for Friday Night Fireworks. Saturday’s game begins at 7:15 p.m. Fans who come early can enjoy the music of Party Nation on the Georgia Pavilion stage prior to the first pitch. On Sunday, Kids Run the Bases Day, first pitch occurs at 1:35 p.m. On July 4, at home, the Braves wrap up a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants. That game begins at 7:20 p.m. 
  • Piedmont Park’s most popular fitness class is back! This 1.5 hour strength building, core sculpting, heart pumping pool workout is perfect for the summer!
